"Those great bronze portals, despite their size and weight, were parted, so it seemed, by a force as slight as a summer breeze. ] Before me stretched a lofty and cavernous room that shone, in the pale light of the tall windows opposite, with the warm golden glow of the Sun and the cold silvery gleam of the Moon. Like a gigantic Hall of Mirrors each surface reflected the others. I found it disconcerting and disorientating to observe my enrobed form in the walls, floor, and ceiling simultaneously. Yet I confess to vanity at seeing my long golden tresses framing my pale, fine-boned features."

The city's walls are metal-coated. The two outer in bronze, the next two in tin, the inner two in ''aurichalcum'' [a gold-copper alloy]. They are guarded by gatehouses. The walls around the Citadel and Temple of Poseidon are gold, like the statues of the Atlantean kings that adorned the buildings. The zones are cut through solid rock to sea-level, as this image from Albert Hermann's Unsere Ahnen and Atlanten [1934], shows:-
Like a Celtic Cross, four canals dissect the city north, south, east and west. Bridges connect each land ring. The longest is 100 ft wide, and carries the Royal Way, which runs north-south. The main canal is 300 ft wide, 100 ft deep, and 9 km long. It flows from the sea to the outer ring.

Homer's main city, with ''long and lofty walls, surmounted by palisades'' or ''high battlements", was built by Nausithous. It is approached by a "narrow causeway". Either side is an "an excellent harbour". Here the black ships with curved hulls are moored.

Nearby is the market place and Temple of Poseidon, with its foundations of large stone blocks. The Palace is close to the Temple.[It is not described by Plato.] The complex doesn't resemble the houses of Alcinous' people. [Diodorus Siculus [1st Century BC] mentions "private villas of costly construction" standing in their own gardens.] The city walls are coated in bronze [or is it Plato's ''aurichalcum''?]. It has gold doors with silver frames. There are gold and silver statues [dogs, youths, etc], and the main hall is lit by torches.
